Me and a friend got into a bit of a scuffle a while ago. My friend does not like the idea of universal tests for certain subjects and grades in school. These are tests administered by the government to ensure that students have a minimum level of education and that no student gets left behind.
It turns out that schools get funding based on the scores from these tests. This forces teaches to teach the requirements for these tests.
Although this all sounds like fries and gravy it really isn't. Apparently many teachers feel obligated to teach these standards during these years and nothing more. If you can drill these standards into a students head then you can get more funding. During these testing years the students actually learn less then previous years because of this teaching method.
What is your opinion on this subject. It's mostly for teaches but I will take anyone's opinion on this subject.

The Devil is coming after me for my sins
Lately I have had the feeling that I am being tested. A lot of usual things have been happening to me lately and they only have one correlation, they are the purest form of evil. Here are just some of the things that I have had to endure.
About 2 weeks ago I went to buy a soda pop from my work on my break. The fee was $1.85 and I had more than enough to cover it. I dropped in a toonie and clicked on the drink of my preference. Down came my drink and the change. I grabbed the drink but when I went for the change I found I was being challenged. When I reached for my change I didn’t find 15 cents but rather 30 cents.
A lot of things went through my head at this point. Should I take the money, or should I not. In the end I took the change that was owed to me and left the remaining 15 cents. What was I guilt of, impure thoughts. Impure thoughts are far better than theft. I am sure happy I didn’t take that money because I wouldn’t have been able to sleep that night.
Then just a few days ago I found myself making another tough decision. I was coming home after dropping someone off at their home. On my back I noticed a drifter on the side of the road looking for a ride.
Let me give you a bit of background on the situation. It was about 4:00 in the morning on a day where the temperature was between -30 to -40. It was on Regent in a public area but the streets were empty and no stores would have been open to allow the person to get warm.
At first I wasn’t going to pick the person up because I was afraid the person would try and steal from me or even try and kill me. I did end up picking up this person and dropping them off at that place on Garry St. I think the name of it was Siloam Mission. I dropped the person off and saw the person get let into the mission.
What was I guilty of? I was judge jury and execution for this person. I had made a decision that this person was a bad person. After talking to the person I realized it was a good person stuck in bad situation. I’m happy I did decide to pick up this traveler.
I have a feeling the devil is going to be welcoming me into the gates of hell personally, because of all my sins.

The politcally correct version of a holiday greeting
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all; and a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2009, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures, and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, choice of computer platform, or sexual preference of the wishes.
By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

Your opinion on fast food
I'm a huge fan of a website called Skeptoid.com. They just came out with a new episode called "Super Sized Fast Food Phobia". It talks about the inaccurate tests done in the video "Super Size Me". It also discusses how safe fast food really can be with nutrition.
I would like to get your opinions after you hear the article at http://skeptoid.com/audio/skeptoid-4088.mp3 or read it at http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4088. It is usually easier to hear the episodes instead of reading them.
I don't want to believe the skit until I get other peoples opinion on it. It has occurred to me that when "Super Size Me" was released that all those people who wanted to believe fast food was unhealthy for you believed it further. I'm stuck in that same situation with this episode. I have always believed that fast food is safe to eat on a daily basis but I don't want to jump to any conclusions based on one article without getting other peoples opinions.

I'm just not smart enough
Have you ever had an idea before that you couldn't grasp? An idea that you couldn't explain but is rambling around in your head. A beautiful idea that just seems past your own IQ.
I've had this idea rattling around in my brain for the past month. I can't put it on paper, or explain it in words. I can't do it because I can't understand it myself. It's like an idea out of a dimension where reality doesn't make any sense.
I wonder if this is how discoveries are made. An idea that doesn't make any sense but given enough time you slowly start to put the puzzle together and can make sense of it.
I just thought of an interesting story that may help you understand the story. When Christopher Columbus stumbled upon America it was already inhabited by natives. When these natives looked out into the ocean they couldn't make sense of these massive ships. To the natives they had never seen ships of this size or magnitude so they didn't even think they were ships, floating in water. They just assumed they were pretty colors resting on the waters.
As time went on the boats came closer, and closer until it became clear to the natives that these were floating vessels. These floating vessels contained people. It was at this point that the natives realized what those color floating things were in the water.
This is the idea I am referring too. Maybe at some point I will be able to make sense of my idea but for now I just don't understand it.

Gathering ones thoughts is hard to do
I have now been trying to write something on my blog for 40 minutes and nothing is coming out. It's not that I don't have anything to write but I can't seem to gather my thoughts. Every time I come up with a good article to write I get discouraged a few lines in and erase it.
Something starts off as a good idea but the more I think about it the more I get discouraged. Or perhaps it's a bunch of scrambled thoughts thoughts that I can't properly put on the page. Or in some cases I can't properly describe my thoughts or feelings on a subject. Or I realize how un-interesting the idea was and send it back to oblivion with my delete key. Or I reread the article and realize that's not where I intended it to go.
I really lack courage and confidence when writing. It's probably because I have never been a very good writer. I even remember back in school I never got any encouragement to write. I would pour my heart into an article on to get it back receiving a bad mark. All my writers seem to follow this very article where it's a bunch of ideas that are just cluttered up that don't make sense.
I'll stop writing now because with every word I write I make less sense.
